Abbey have been announced as a major sponsor of Queens Park Rangers and the season start draws ever closer.
Part of the Santander Group, Abbey join forces with QPR to become the clubs official financial partner, akin to this it will explore business and commercial relationships with the club with respect to a new Business in Sport programme.
Nathan Bostock of Abbey spoke following the announcement of the deal:
‘QPR has a great ambition and we are excited to be part of it.” Bostock told QPR.co.uk
‘We look forward to developing a business and community programme with the Club that will involve our staff and customers as well as building on our existing initiatives with schools, charities and local communities.’
Abbey were strong contenders for the shirt sponsorship itself if rumours in some sections were to be believed, but this latest partnership had QPR Holdings Vice-Chairman Amit Bhatia over the moon:
‘Today is another very important day for QPR, as we welcome one of the world’s largest banks on board as our strategic financial partner.
Abbey is part of a global banking brand that stands for success and excellence worldwide, and these are qualities that we strive to instil within our Club.”
The son-in-law of Rangers` wealthy co-owner Lakshmi Mittal continued:
‘We hope to have a long and successful partnership with them, and look forward to ushering in the new era for QPR together.
I would like to thank the team at Abbey for their confidence in us, and I hope that before long we will achieve our dream of promotion into the Premier League with them as our partners.’
Founded in 1944 Abbey became part of Banco Santander in 2004 in a £9.5bn takeover.
