Marc Bircham tells of his delight to return to the Queens Park Rangers in a coaching capacity indicating how impressed he is with the current set-up.

Bircham was today (Thursday) appointed as Youth Development Assistant Manager, assisting long-term friend Steve Gallen in bringing talent through the youth system.

The 31-year-old, formerly a combative midfielder, spoke to QPR.co.uk about the opportunity to hone his coaching skills at Loftus Road.

‘I’ve always wanted to be involved in the coaching side of things and what better place to start,’ said Bircham.

‘This is a great opportunity for me to learn my trade at a Club that means so much to me.’

The self-professed QPR fan was also impressed with the attitude of the Rangers youth system indicating that there is talent that is destined for the first-team in future.

‘They’ve really impressed me,’ he continued.

‘The attitude of the lads is great and the team spirit within the camp is very positive.

‘They’re a great bunch and there’s one or two gems that I’m sure will come to fruition in the future.’

Bircham made 152 appearances for the R`s scoring seven goals after joining from Millwall in 2002. He struck up a great rapport with Ian Holloway and Kevin Gallen and they were at the forefront of Rangers promotion charge in 2006.
