QPR Italia and Vital QPR have once again teamed up to bring you an Italian perspective concerning Rangers newest additions, as well as the players rumoured for W12.
Francesco and Alberto of QPR Italia firstly divulge in detail from a QPR fans perspective the possible drawbacks of purchasing young Italian players.
Italian Players and QPR
“Italian QPR fans feel in two main ways about Italian players, some of them are undoubtedly satisfied to see many ‘Azzurri’ in ‘their’ team and some are not quite sure that such deals are the best for QPR and its and its attacking and goalscoring ideals.”
“Whilst being good players, it is proven that really few under-21 players are able to confirm their performance out of the junior teams once they arrive in the professionals.”
“For a Balotelli (Inter Milan) or a Giovinco, Marchisio or De Ceglie (Juventus Turin) there are dozens of young ‘wanna be great players’ that are stuck anonymously in the lower reaches of Serie B, C or beyond.”
“QPR’s bet it’s a bold one, but some Italian fans are worried that’s not sufficient to make the leap the fans wish QPR to do.”
QPR Italia then pointed out the evident irony that whilst Luigi De Canio was in charge, mainly English based players were introduced, but evidently with Iain Dowie taking the helm, there has been more players without a grounding in the English game.
“De Canio mostly wanted Championship players accustomed to the English football and many of us think the same way.”
“We hope it all for the best, and we’d be delighted, but we’re expecting other players to come. Gorkss and Watson would be a good start.”
QPR Italia then took a look at the players that Rangers have signed, have been rumoured to sign, and gave their insight into what Italian fans feel.
Samuel Di Carmine
Undoubtedly a talented forward. Prandelli, Fiorentina’s coach, explained that he prefers to loan him out because in the ‘Viola’ he wouldn’t get the opportunity to play many games.
Dowie said that this year in QPR will come useful to evaluate him, but Di Carmine had already explained only be at QPR for a year and then he intends to go back to Fiorentina. If he doesn’t change his mind it would be useless to bet on him for Rangers future.
However, he has to put on some weight if he doesn’t want to be slaughtered by Championship centre backs!
Matthias Lepiller
He was entitled to sign up for QPR on Thursday and what I wrote about Di Carmine applies to him, too, although Matthias hasn’t said anything about his own future.
He also is a forward, has shown less skills than Di Carmine, anyway he’s promising. These two players from Fiorentina came personally recommended by De Canio.
Emmanuel Ledesma
Great talent, he’s called ‘Anguilla’ (Eel) by his fans after his ability to wriggle away from his opponents. He has just been interviewed and claimed to be delighted of the choice he made and hopes that the things De Canio said about QPR fans
‘QPR fans are as passionate as Genoa’s ones’
‘When I knew that QPR looked for me my heart filled with joy. It means that in life all is possible.’ […] ‘I’ve a great opportunity to catch.’ […] ‘I wish to do my best to contribute to fulfill the dreams of this team that is working with such passion.’
He’s an attacking midfielder with great vision and good skills but as I’m told by some Geona’s fans, he’s not completely mature for the ‘real’ football. It seems he’s a little bit too ‘anarchic’, we’ll see if the English discipline will straight him up.
Matteo Alberti
We know very little about him. He never played in the first team (and Chievo were in Serie B…), some people speak well of him but there’s those who are highly dubious about him as well. He appears to be well built for the Championship, but I can’t say anything about how he plays. We really don’t know him.
Mattia Destro
He’s a really promising forward, but he’s only 17. They’re talking about a QPR’s interest on him, but he’s really young (and physically ‘light’).
There are some rumours about Pasquale Guardino, a defender who plays in ‘Prima Categoria’ (non professional championship), but I know nothing about him…
But the question I have is: how will feel the English fans about this ‘Italian invasion’?
We’ll have to wait and see…
