Rangers have this afternoon been drawn away to Sheffield United in the 3rd round of the FA Cup.

3rd round matches will be played on the weekend of 2nd January, the date and time depending on whether our game (let`s be positive here!) is picked up by TV or not.

QPR have only faced Sheffield United in the FA Cup once, believe it or not. That came way back in the 1922/23 season, 10th March 1923 to be precise. It was a home time but QPR lost 1-0 – let us hope we can change that record this time around!!

We all know that QPR`s record in the Cup has been disappointing putting it mildly! Looking back over the past ten years, we have made it through the 3rd round on only two occasions. In 1999/2000, we beat Torquay 3-2, in a replay at Torquay, following a 1-1 draw at Loftus Road ten days earlier. We then proceeded to lose away to Charlton 1-0 in the 4th round ending our run for that year.

In 2000/2001, after a 3-3 draw at Luton, we beat the Hatters 2-1 in the replay; only to face a mauling from Arsenal at Loftus Road (6-0) in the 4th round. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is that as far as our more recent exploits in the FA Cup are concerned.

Since then we have sometimes even failed to make it to the 3rd round – no-one can forget the ignominious defeat at home at the hands of Vauxhall Motors after a dismal penalty shoot-out.

The joke used to be that tea-bags stayed in the cup longer than QPR. Perhaps this year, under Jim Magilton and John Gorman, QPR can stay in the cup long enough for a strong cup of tea?!
