Queens Park Rangers have drawn Carlisle United at home in the Carling Cup Second Round this evening, inspiring memories of the League Cup win of 1967.

Rangers defeated Carlisle 2-1 in the same competition on Wednesday, December 7 1966, with Rodney Marsh bagging a brace in the 5th Round tie on their way to eventually winning the cup against West Bromwich Albion at Wembley.

The last time the R’s faced United was in the very same competition where goals from Les Ferdinand, Clive Wilson and Bradley Allen saw the R’s through over two legs in October 1994. The tie takes place at Loftus Road on the week commencing August 25th.

Carlisle finished third in League One in 2007/08, losing narrowly to Leeds United in the play-off semi-final. Like Rangers, the Cumbrians also have a 100% record in League and cup, edging out Bristol Rovers 3-2 in the League, before beating Shrewsbury in the Carling Cup.

The R`s secured their passage into round two courtesy of a 3-2 win over Swindon Town at the County Ground. Goals from Angelo Balanta, Dexter Blackstock and Damien Delaney cancelled out efforts from Swindon duo Simon Cox and Billy Paynter.
