QPR have been told they must fork out over £3million if they want to sign winger Wayne Routledge from Tottenham.

Rangers make a £1.5m bid last week but were told to double their offer for the former Crystal Palace player.

Routledge has started just three games for Spurs in two and a half years and spent last season on loan at Fulham.

The Loftus Road club will decide this week whether to make Routledge their record signing.

Chairman Gianni Paladini said…

‘Wayne would do well here but although we now have solid finances, nobody is going to pay silly money.’

Rangers are thought to have offered birthday boy Wayne, who will celebrate his 23rd birthday on Monday 7 January around £25,000 a week.

  • Paladini warning for Spurs
by Alex Livie, 06 January 2008

Queens Park Rangers chairman Gianni Paladini has insisted The R?s will not pay over the odds for Tottenham winger Wayne Routledge.

The Loftus Road outfit and flush with cash following the takeover by Flavio Briatore, Bernie Ecclestone and Lakshmi Mittal and have already been active players in the January transfer window.

There are sure to be more arrivals before the month is out and Routledge is a player who has crossed their radar.

The winger seems surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane, but Paladini claims they will not be held to ransom over the 22-year-old.

?Wayne would do well here but although we now have solid finances, nobody is going to pay silly money,? Paladini is quoted as saying in the News of the World.

  • I would suggest that a 2m initial fee + add ons would be a fair price. Routledge is a good player and premiership quality. I think with the right move he would be a very shrewd investment.

  • routledge would be a very good purchase for a club of QPR’S current standing….he is a fast talented winger of prem standard…but has found it difficult at spurs, with so much competition….for 3mil you lot should be biting our hand off!…your going to need players like routledge. players a step (or 2) above the sort of usual transfers you’d normally make in the championship, in order to step up to join the big boys in the prem….im surprised at your managers comments, cause your not going to make that big leap on a shoestring budget. and whats 3mil these days at the top level?….particularly with your current massive cash injection

  • Championship side QPR look set to rival Aston Villa in the hunt for Tottenham Hotspur winger Wayne Routledge.

QPR, backed by the billions of Flavio Briatore, Bernie Ecclestone and Lakshmi Mittal have already signed five players since January 1st and are now turning their attention to Routledge.

Spurs are believed to be looking for a fee in the region of £2 million for the winger, however QPR may face competition from Aston Villa, with boss Martin O’Neill a keen admirer of the former Crystal Palace star.

  • £25k A WEEK??? I know you are the richest club in the whole world but that’s ridiculous. He’s good but not THAT good.
