Peter Ramage has given his first interview since becoming a Queens Park Rangers player, and outlines his hopes for the future in a Rangers shirt.

Speaking to QPR.co.uk The recent signing from Newcastle United outlined how the move to QPR came about:

“Through the chairman, the chairman contacted my agent, obviously aware that I was out of contract at Newcastle and asked if I was interested in coming down for talks, and I came down last week. I met Mr. Paladini and Mr. Briatore and it was almost deal done after that.”

“He plans to get this club in the Premiership, and he wanted me to be part of that, hopefully I am. He had nice words to say about the place, talked the place up as you would expect him to do. But to be honest obviously being up north this club gets a little attention as it is, because of whose obviously backing them, and I was looking forward to be a part of it.’

Ramage added to this speaking about the aspirations of Mr. Briatore and his fellow investors:

“He expects us to be challenging for the automatic places and if not the playoffs. The calibre of players he`s looking to bring in are top quality players to go along with the squad we`ve got at the minute.

Hopefully we can match the ambitions that the owner has got and get this club back where it deserves to be”

Ramage also spoke of former manager Luigi De Canio`s interest in the Ashington born full back, and that a change in management was never in danger of souring the deal:

“Mr. De Canio obviously expressed an interest in me, the chairman and the owner said that I was going to be part of the new managers plans when he comes in and that was all it really needed for me”

It wasn`t long before Ramage was talking about his boyhood club Newcastle, and the well-documented reasons he had to leave.

I`d been there since I was 11 so it was a long time for me. The change will hopefully do me good, and as I say this club is going places and I want to be part of it.”

“Newcastle is a club I supported as a boy, I grew up supporting them, I used to go to all the games as a young`un. But the chance of first team football next season wasn`t going to be guaranteed, but I had a long hard chat with him, he expressed that I might have had a chance, but might is not good enough for me at the minute.

He added:

I`m 24 now and I want to be playing football, I missed almost the whole of last season with my knee, so the chance that QPR have offered me to play football is too good to turn down.”

Finally Ramage outlined the position he preferred to play on the field, suggesting that Michael Mancienne`s vacated right back position, may not be his first choice.

“I prefer to play right back, I played my predominant games in Newcastle`s team at full back, but I`ve come through the ranks as a centre half, I`ve learnt my trade there, that`s where I want to play, but I`d never close the door on playing anywhere else, to put on the shirt and be in the starting 11 is good enough for me.”
