Queens Park Rangers have secured the signature of former youth product Nigel Quashie.

The former R’s trainee was sold following the club’s relegation in 1996 to then Premier League Nottingham Forest – but now returns to W12 12 years later in the twilight of his career.

He has penned a short-term deal until the end of the season and is expected to go straight into the squad to face the Reds on Tuesday night.

Speaking to QPR.co.uk the Scottish international was delighted to return home: ‘It’s great to be back home, and I am delighted to be at a Club that I love to pieces,’ he said.

‘I had a good time when I was here before, and the fans were very good to me. I’m a fan of the Club myself so I know what they demand.

‘There are some excellent players here and it is nice to come back and be a part of it.’

On Rangers ambitions and his own philosophy to the game, Quashie was keen to point out that he expects the R’s to be challenging for a playoff place.

He added: ‘We’ve got a chance to get into the play-offs, and if we can do that and then get into the Premier League, the whole place will just take off.

‘I guarantee I will play with passion. It’s about putting your foot in and working as hard as you possibly can.

‘We want opposing teams to come to Loftus Road knowing they’re going to face one hell of a difficult game.

‘It’s important to me that I do well for the QPR supporters.’

Folllowing his spell at the City Ground, Quashie went on to play for Scotland while also plying his trade for Portsmouth, Southampton, West Bromwich Albion and West Ham United.

The Hammers recently freed Quashie from his contract which enabled him to once again link up with Rangers, where he will wear the number 15 shirt.
