QUEENS Park Rangers have elected to release Jay Bothroyd from his contract.

The former Cardiff City front-man had signed a three-year deal in 2011, but Rangers have taken the opportunity to exercise an early release clause, freeing up the underperforming front-man.

It had been reported this morning that Bothroyd could make way, and this afternoon QPR confirmed the rumours by releasing the former England international.

It is anticipated that this will be the start of several players leaving, some via mutual agreement and others sold where possible.
