QPR Man Heads To Portsmouth – “Have To Feel Sorry For Him” “Good Player”

|

Queens Park Rangers confirmed on Tuesday that midfielder David Wheeler had made the loan switch out to Portsmouth for the remainder of the 2018/19 campaign.

He linked up with former QPR assistant gaffer Kenny Jackett at Fratton Park as Pompey continue their League One campaign.

27-year-old Wheeler made the move to Loftus Road at the end of last summer’s transfer window from Exeter City but his spell at the club could certainly have gone better.

Last season injuries interrupted his campaign and he went on to only make five starting appearances with a further four Championship showings from the substitutes bench. Those games saw a return of one goal.

Heading out on loan as he continues to build his fitness and confidence after last season does make sense from our perspective in some ways, especially the saving of some cash on top you would expect which will slightly bolster Ian Holloway’s transfer kitty but with the deal being for the entire year, you wonder if that in itself tells a story about his future with us.

All deals should have a January break clause though so it’ll be interesting to see how he does in the first half of the year and then what we do come the New Year.
