QPR “Lose The Game With The Last Kick” – McClaren’s Frustration Laid Out For All To See

|

Having drawn our last match after yet another defeat, Queens Park Rangers welcomed Rotherham United to Loftus Road for tonight’s Championship action.

Ten points separated the sides going into tonight’s match, but form was in their favour given our recent run of results so this was likely to be a toughy.

Sadly that was exactly what it proved to be as our poor form continued. A goalless first half played itself out but with just under 20 minutes remaining in the game, the visitors had the lead. Bright Osayi-Samuel had us back on level terms with five minutes remaining in the tie, but five minutes into stoppage-time they scored a second to inflict further frustration and disappointment on the fanbase.

With pressure already mounting on the former England gaffer, this result certainly won’t temper that.

Speaking to the BBC following the fulltime whistle, manager Steve McClaren said of the final scoreline.

“It was a big disappointment, to lose the game with the last kick – we’ve had that a few times and been kicked in the teeth and we’ve got to recover again. I thought we were poor tonight, we competed but gave away too many free-kicks in bad areas and they’re very strong on that and it was our downfall. I thought we’d rescued a point but we didn’t play enough football, create enough chances and the confidence looked low. That was disappointing because we played Leeds here two weeks ago and won the game with a great performance all round. Since then we’ve been poor and we need to address the situation.”
