League Two side Port Vale will be visitors to Loftus Road in the First Round of the Carling Cup this season.

Rangers fans have the first date for their diaries and as predicted it is entirely underwhelming with Port Vale visiting W12.

With the First Round not only regionalised but also seeded, the R’s pulled Vale out of the hat at Loftus Road – thankfully not at Vale Park where they have an appalling recent record.

Despite a poor FA Cup record – the Carling Cup has been a better source of enjoyment with visits to Old Trafford and Stamford Bridge in successive seasons.

Vale by comparison knocked out Warnock’s beloved Sheffield United and steel city rivals Sheffield Wednesday last season in a promising run by Micky Adams’ outfit.

The last time the two sides met was in the Carling Cup when Gary Waddock’s final game in charge ended with Jeff Smith, Danny Whitaker and Richard Walker hammering the nail in the R’s coffin.
