Despite Sky Sports News sources claiming our deal for Jason Puncheon, from Southampton, had gone through as early as last night, it has only been in the last half an hour that QPR.co.uk has been able to confirm the winger’s signature.

Puncheon comes in on loan until 2nd January 2012, following a successful loan spell last season at Blackpool. Puncheon has clearly fallen down the pecking order at Southampton, since signing from Plymouth in February 2010.

In November of last year, Puncheon went on loan to Milwall. He appeared 7 times for our London rivals, scoring 5 times in those 7 appearances. On his return to Southampton, in January 2011, Puncheon moved to Blackpool till the end of the season. He made 6 appearances for Ian Holloway’s side, scoring 3 times.

Puncheon is another Londoner returning home, alongside Shaun Wright-Phillips and Anton Ferdinand, hailing originally from Croydon. He is 25 (born June 1986) and becomes Neil Warnock’s 13th signing of the August 2011 transfer window.

Warnock told QPR.co.uk that ‘it just made sense to give him an opportunity to come in until January and show us what he can do.’

He continued: ‘Jason is a good acquisition because he brings pace and plenty of desire. He is desperate to do well, and that really impressed me.’

Warnock also joked that Puncheon was so eager to come to QPR he would have paid Warnock to join!
