SHAUN Derry is the subject of transfer speculation, with League One Portsmouth linked with the midfield talisman.

The 34-year-old played a key role not only in QPR’s drive to promotion in 2011, but also maintaining the R’s Premier League status towards the latter end of last season.

Despite travelling, Derry has yet to feature in QPR’s pre-season tour, further fuelling speculation that the midfield may be in demand elsewhere.

The arrivals of Park Ji Sung and Samba Diakité may well have nudged Derry down the pecking order, but whether there is any merit to selling the midfielder at this stage is questionable.

Derry played for Portsmouth between 2000 and 2002, making 49 appearances and scoring a solitary goal in a crucial fixture against West Bromwich Albion.

  • The question has to be, will there be a Portsmouth for him to go to? They are beyond being an economic basket case at this moment in time.

  • Agreed, surely they cannot be comprehending inclusions? – They are a bit like us circa 2001. Very few starting pre-season.
