Djibril Cissé rounded off the 2011/12 season in dramatic fashion – goals, red cards but ultimately success. The start to the 2012/13 season started in significantly less exciting fashion. He missed a penalty in a draw against Norwich City and his form continued to dip as rumours about his personal life continued to surface.
His enthusiasm, particularly away from home, continued to wane. Once Mark Hughes departed after another in a succession of poor results, Cissé appeared to lose all interest. He scored what could have been a crucial goal against Wigan Athletic but scarecely raised an eyebrow in celebration.
Harry Redknapp did not appear to have full faith in the French forward, and he was out the door Al-Gharafa at the first available opportunity.
