MATT Phillips netted the decisive goal as Queens Park Rangers edged out playoff hopefuls Ipswich Town at Loftus Road.

Rangers dominated the opening period as Massimo Luongo`s effort was well fielded by Bartosz Bialkowski – who made a string of fine saves to deny the home side.

Only Junior Hoilett will know how he failed to beat the Polish ‘stopper when he was denied at point blank range after a fine centre from Matt Phillips, then after latching on to Sebastian Polter`s pass only to be thwarted at the near post.

A volley for the Canadian went close after more fine lay-off work from Polter before Ipswich grew in stature after the break – Smithies denying the live wire Freddie Sears from close range.

It was to be Rangers day however with substitute Nasser El-Khayati`s shot flying wayward of the target but onto the grateful head of Matt Phillips to secure a deserved three points.
