Opinion: QPR’s search for talent can’t just stop at defenders as they plan swoop of Spurs man

Well, you certainly can’t accuse those in charge of transfers at QPR of not keeping an eye on the long-term future.

I just wish they were this desperate to look after the short-term future during the transfer window when they didn’t replace Nahki Wells, but you can’t win them all.

According to a report from West London Sport, QPR have brought in Jonathan Dinzeyi on a trial from Tottenham Hotspur with a view to bringing him in permanently. The 20-year-old centre-back has yet to make a senior appearance for the North London side, but has been very prominent in the youth sides, having racked up more than 60 appearances in the academy and his contract is reported to expire this coming summer.

Whilst this is only a trial at the moment, it is good to see that the club are willing to look to young, cheap talent to bolster the squad. With Lee Hoos recently talking about not being able to compete at the same level as other teams given the Financial Fair Play implications, they may be out best option when it comes to recruiting players.

And given Mark Warburton has shown enough faith in 21-year-old Conor Masterson to make him a regular in the first team in the past couple of weeks, it wouldn’t exactly be a stretch to think that Dinzeyi could be part of the team sooner rather than later next season is everything were to go smoothly.

Now they just need to start looking for some young forwards to bring in at the same time, because with Jordan Hugill as the club’s only out and out centre-forward until the end of the season, and then nobody beyond that given Hugill’s loan is set to expire, choices when it comes to goal scorers is looking rather thin for the future.

Do you think Hugill will be at the club next season?
