Hornets midfielder Tom Cleverly is the One to Watch for their visit to Loftus Road.

Name: Thomas William Cleverley

Date of Birth: 12 Aug 1989 (in Basingstoke, Hampshire)

Former Clubs: Manchester United, Leicester City (loan)

Appearances (Goals): 39 (12)

Tom started his youth career at Bradford City but after showing some impressive performances was snapped by Manchester aged just 15. In his first season at United he made 9 appearances for the under-18s whilst managing a place on the bench for the reserves. The 06-07 season saw the youngster become a prominent member of the Man United under 18s whilst gaining his reserve debut. However the youngster’s season was cut short by injury.

The following season proved to be a successful for Cleverly. He became a integral part of Manchester United Reserves with his performances leading to him becoming the Reserves Captain. The youngster scored in the final of the Lancashire Senior Cup helping his side beat Liverpool to the trophy. He also led his side to win the Manchester Senior Cup. His performances over the season led him to being nominated to become Reserve Player of the Year.

The off season saw the youngster play his first game for the first team. Cleverly was called up for Manchester United’s tour of South Africa. He was brought on as a substitute in final of the tournament and scored Man Utd’s third goal. His performances earned him a squad number for the 08-09 season. The midfielder was an unused substitute in the League cup games against Middlesbrough and their 1-0 win over the Superhoops. In January 09, Tom was loaned by Leicester to help with their bid to be promoted to the Championship. The youngster made 15 appearances for the side and scored two goals but had to return to Manchester after a serious shoulder injury. His efforts earned him a League One winners medal at Leicester.

The 09-10 season has seen Cleverly become an integral part of the Watford team. He was loaned out to Watford until January. His presence in the Watford midfield earned him an extension on his loan until the end of the season. The midfielder has been a key part of Watford’s promotion push by not only creating goals but also scoring 10 goals including the injury time goal against the Superhoops.

His creativity in the Watford midfield makes him a big threat to a very volatile QPR defence and is One for the QPR defence to watch.
