One to Watch – Steve Morison

Millwall’s number 20, Steve Morison, has been identified by Vital QPR as the One to Watch as the Rs welcome their London rivals to Loftus Road for a midweek clash.

Millwall’s front man Steve Morison will be determined to prove his credentials in the npower Championship after taking League 1 by storm in his opening season for The Lions. Having been described by former Stevenage manager Graham Westley as a player that ‘no defender would want to play against` due to his height, pace and strength, the striker is not to be taken lightly by the Rs defence.

Having come through Northampton Town`s youth system, he signed a professional contract at the age of 18. Featuring regularly as a substitute Morison failed to make an instant impact on the team, and after managing just 3 goals in 24 appearances he joined Conference South side Bishop`s Stortford for an undisclosed fee.

He helped Stortford reach the FA Trophy semi-final and finished the season as the club’s top goalscorer, as well as finishing as the 2004-05 FA Trophy top goalscorer. Having netted 28 times in 45 league appearances for Stortford he later joined Stevenage Borough in August 2006 for a small figure fee.

Morison’s goalscoring attributes came to prominence at the Conference National side where he was later included in the club’s ‘Wall of Fame’ which features the ‘the six greatest players in Stevenage`s history as voted for by the club`s supporters’.

During his three year tenure at the club, Morison made a total of 152 appearances, scoring an impressive 89 goals. With the Hertfordshire side failing to achieve promotion to League 2 a release clause in his contract was released and Morison was allowed to leave and, shortly after, agreed personal terms with League One team Millwall in May 2009, with a fee of £130,000 being agreed for the transfer.

Steve finished his first season at The Den with 23 goals, but his contribution to the team and work ethic were ‘tremendous assets’. Having already netted 6 goals in all competitions this season, Morison will be out to prove his worth against the Championship’s meanest defence.
