Player Profile: So eager to rid themselves of their previous direct and unimaginative playing style, Mark Hughes` new look Stoke finally secured the signing of 6`1″, 12 stone, imposing frontman Mame Biram Diouf earlier this summer. The forceful striker, whose past success in the Premier League with Manchester United stretched about as far as being twinned with rapper 50 Cent, will look to lead the line for The Potters in their, meticulously planned of course, free flowing and expansive new style of play. Despite the 26-year-old`s stature assimilating ex-manager Tony Pulis` Britannia ethos, Diouf has received glowing references from fans of previous club Hannover 96, and appears to have improved greatly since his last stint in the Premier League.

Hughes had laboured in attempting to capture Diouf since his arrival in Stoke-on-Trent, but ended his protracted pursuit of the Senegalese international when his contract finally expired with The Reds this summer. Diouf had earned rave reviews in Germany with his impressive pace, ridiculous aerial dominance and, above all, desirable work ethic. Whether his second spell in the Premier League is a success remains to be seen, but his colossal goal against City and already promising performances bode well for the striker.

Playing Career:

Born in Senegal, Mame Biram Diouf began his career with top division side Diaraf. He moved to Norwegian side Molde in 2006 and began enhancing his reputation with a series of impressive performances; the most notable in a 5-2 win against Brann in which he scored a hat-trick in the first nine minutes of the game, before adding a fourth later on.

Manchester United swooped to sign the promising youngster in 2009 and, having spent the following season back on loan in Norway, Diouf scored his first goal for United in a 3-0 victory over Burnley in 2010. The striker spent the 2010/2011 season on loan at Blackburn but could only manage 3 league goals in 26 appearances.

Diouf failed to make the grade at United and eventually left Old Trafford for German side Hannover 96 in January 2012, signing for an undisclosed fee. He helped his new side to the quarter-finals of the Europa League later that season. He finished with 26 goals in 57 league appearances at 96 before finally signing a four-year-deal with Stoke City in July 2014 and the striker`s first Stoke goal came in a 1-0 victory over Champions Manchester City.
