Continuing the build-up to this weekend`s clash against Southampton, Vital QPR outlined David McGoldrick as the One to Watch for the Saints.

McGoldrick, 20, was born and raised in Nottingham where he made his name coming through the Notts. County setup that has produced some notable talent over the years, including Jermaine Pennant.

Southampton saw the vast potential that McGoldrick held and he became a Saints player in 2004, joining their academy. It wasn`t long before he made his Southampton debut after some impressive displays in the youth set-up.

It wasn`t a happy debut as Southampton were defeated in the Carling Cup against Mansfield Town. In the same season he returned to familiar territory, Notts. County as he returned to Meadow Lane on loan. He had a chance to showcase the talents that he undoubtedly displayed at Southampton`s youth teams.

McGoldrick was finding a first team place hard to come by as Southampton had a plethora of attacking options, notably Grzegorz Rasiak and Marek Saganowski. Henceforth he was sent out on loan to AFC Bournemouth where he bagged six goals in twelve appearances for the Cherries.

David continued his goal scoring and performance trend as he was loaned out once more at the beginning of the 2007/08 season to Port Vale.

Due to heavy budget cuts and the majority of Southampton`s well paid players moving on, David got his chance early this season, and has impressed in the opening stages bagging four goals in all competitions. An opening day strike against Cardiff City, and the Saints solitary goal to win at Pride Park against Derby County was complimented by a brace in the League Cup against Exeter City.

A live-wire forward, McGoldrick has finally managed to establish himself in the first team set-up at St. Mary`s , keeping out the experienced Stern John amongst others. His combination of pace and power makes him a tricky customer to deal with and the Rangers rearguard will have to be at their best to deny the Saints youngster.
