One to Watch – Brett Pitman

In-form Brett Pitman has been identified by Vital QPR as the One to Watch as QPR welcome Bristol City to Loftus Road on Monday.

With seven goals in his last seven games Brett Pitman will be looking to continue an impressive run of goalscoring form. Somewhat of a confidence striker, the 22 year olds confidence will be certainly be sky high and Pitman will be looking to test his goalscoring credentials against the Championship`s meanest defence.

Hailing from Jersey, Pitman, unlike many footballers his age, was not associated with a professional club as a schoolboy and was instead spotted playing for local side St Paul`s as a 16-year-old, by Bournemouth AFC. Having initially struggled to cement a place in the starting line up, his chance came due to Bournemouth`s apparent financial difficulties and he scored his first senior goal in a 1-1 draw with Blackpool in the 2006-2007 season.

Pitman, once an enigmatic promising talent, is now certainly an established goalscorer and under the watchful eye of Eddie Howe he continued to net for Bournemouth winning Football League and fans` player of the month awards and netting numerous hat-tricks. Compared to legendary Channel Islander Matt Le Tissier, Pitman has made no secret of his ambition to reach the heights of the former Southampton striker.

After scoring an impressive 59 times in 173 appearances for the Cherries, it was only a matter of time before bigger clubs came knocking and on 19th August 2010 Ian Holloway confirmed Pitman was having a medical at Blackpool. However, it soon transpired the striker had failed to agree terms with the Seasiders, and a mere two days later it was announced Pitman had joined Bristol City for an undisclosed fee.

After a somewhat slow start to his Bristol City career, Pitman scored his first goal in a 2-0 win over Leicester and the goals have continued to flow from there. A 3-0 thumping of Cardiff City in their last game, Bristol City and Pitman will be keen to put a dent in another team hopeful of gaining promotion.
