QPR take on Carlisle United in the League Cup this week, rekindling memories of the glorious cup win of 1967.

With Rangers flying high at the top of the Third Division they faced opposition a tier higher in the pyramid, Carlisle United in the Fifth Round of the League Cup. The Cumbrains came to W12 with back to back defeats against Millwall (2-1) and at home to Rotherham (3-2), as they vied for a promotion spot into the top tier of English football.
Rangers came into the fixture at the summit of the Third Division following the 3-0 thumping of Bristol Rovers at Loftus Road, with Allen, Sanderson and Lazarus the goal scorers on that occasion.
Both teams came into the fixture on a high following impressive results in the previous rounds, Carlisle dispatched of Blackburn Rovers 4-0 in Round 4, whilst Rangers impressively dumped Division One Leicester City out of the cup, winning 4-2 at Loftus Road with Les Allen at the double, and Roger Morgan and Mark Lazarus chipping in.
Rangers once again overcame the odds to secure a place in the final four of the League Cup, when Carlisle United were sent packing by a brace from Rodney Marsh making it an incredible 29 goals from 28 Football League and Cup appearances for the striker.
Carlisle ended up finishing third in Division Two, narrowly missing out on promotion, whilst Rangers dispatched Birmingham City over two legs to reach the final, before performing a momentous comeback to see them through against Division One favourites West Bromwich Albion, securing a memorable League and Cup double.
