Ollie – Build That Momentum

Manager Ian Holloway has held his pre Sheffield United press conference today ahead of Queens Park Rangers’ trip to Bramall Lane this evening.

With a two nil victory over Bolton Wanderers at the weekend, Holloway is hoping to see the side really build some momentum and take victory over Chris Wilder’s impressive promoted side and he knows that key to doing that will be in the players showing no fear in the match.

Speaking to the Official Site Holloway said clearly the aim was to repeat the professional display we put in at Loftus Road and ensure we came out of the match with all three points.

‘The squad is getting younger, but we`re getting stronger. We`ve got some fantastic elements here and it would be lovely to go on a run now. But we`ve got to earn the right to go on a winning run. It`s another big game in what is a big week. We got the three points we wanted and deserved on Saturday and now I want something out of this game – to build on the win we got off them earlier in the season.’

Picking up a double following the earlier one nil victory in October would be a huge boost for the group, especially given United’s form with them harbouring outside hopes of a second promotion run, but of course that means they will be tricky customers later this evening – especially on their own patch – and Ollie is well aware of that.

‘I`m really pleased for Chris with what he`s done with Sheffield United this season. He`s fantastic fella and he`s always done very well wherever he`s been. Now he`s doing it at the club he loves, which is brilliant to see. They`ve been a breath of fresh air to this division.’

Holloway went on to say about the challenge we would face.

‘The way they play is very difficult to play against. They`re very bold, like to be very dominant, and they`re adventurous with the way they utilise their right and left-sided centre-backs. They take risks; they take gambles; they try to outnumber you. We`ll be bold and look to get after them like we did at our place. Their keeper made a mistake in the game at Loftus Road and we managed to hang on to win the game 1-0. We were hanging on for grim death late on, but we got the result we wanted in the end.’

He also admitted that silencing the crowd tonight would be a challenge in itself.

‘People talk about trying to keep their crowd quiet, but that`s never easy to do. He`s got them rocking at Bramall Lane – so we`ll need to be at it from the off! We need to be attack-minded and try and show them what we`re about. We`ve been very disappointed with our points return on the road – but some of our performances have deserved more, for sure. I wish we could replicate what we do at home when we go away – but it`s something we`re working on. The margins in this division are so fine.’

He did however remain confident and that was based on the performances of the players in both the Bolton Wanderers and Wolverhampton Wanderers clashes.

‘I feel happier than any time I`ve been here. The reason I say that is because of the way we`re sticking to the game plan that we`re working on day after day on the training ground. The professionalism we`re showing and the way the older lads are being with the young lads in this very young group is special.’

Adding.

‘The group is developing and we`re doing it the right way. Name me another club that has as many young players around the first team as we`ve got? I doubt you`ll be able to. This is the way I want it and this is the direction in which the club is taking things. Of course there are risks, but in the long term, it`s the right way to run the football club. When I look back at my bench and see the young lads ready to come on, it fills me with excitement and pride.’
