Vital QPR new signing JackSupple explores the Neil Warnock tenure and where he thinks Rangers should go from here.

Speaking after the Sheffield Wednesday in game in April Neil Warnock said ‘It was so frustrating. I can’t wait for the summer if I’m being honest’ welcome to our world Neil.

Since the departure of Jim Magilton, QPR’s season was effectively over. The desperate attempts to resurrect the season by Paul Hart and Mick Harford were ineffective to say the least and what was once a promising play-off attempt quickly turned into a potential relegation dogfight – a more familiar scenario for QPR in recent years.

Enter Neil Warnock a manager who embodies the Championship, knows it inside out and has done well at the majority of clubs he has managed.

Brought in to steady the ship and to stop the rot, Warnock has made QPR hard to beat – losing only twice in ten matches showing the resilience which is needed to secure Championship status for next years’ campaign.

This summer will hopefully see Neil Warnock really make his mark on the squad, the timing of his appointment meant he wasn’t able to bring in players. He has had to make do with a squad that has lacked confidence and that steely determination which is always familiar with a Neil Warnock team.

He has done a good job considering the obvious deficiencies and I think we’re all in agreement in regard to looking to the summer ahead.

If I were Neil Warnock the first thing I would look to do is to bring in Adel Taraabt and Jay Simpson on permanent deals.

Both have impressed this year Simpson being more consistent throughout the season but under the stewardship of Neil Warnock, Taraabt has been at the heart of everything good for QPR and for the right price he could be a great signing.

Jay Simpson has done commendably well up top on his own for the majority of the season but is in dire need of a strike partner to shoulder some of the work that he has had to do.

An old-fashioned centre forward like Darius Henderson (Sheffield United) or Rob Hulse (Derby) would be ideal as their aerial presence and natural strength are suited for the Championship. This type of player would complement the attacking talent we have because their role much like the ‘Heskey’ role in the England team is one of selflessness, bringing other players into play with flick ons and holding up the ball.

I think most fans would like to see Jay Simpson on a permanent transfer along with two other strikers – a target man like the aforementioned and a clinical finisher in the mould of Nicky Maynard (Bristol City) or Gary Hooper.

In light of the absence of Martin Rowlands and Gavin Mahon it has become patently obvious we need more leaders in the team. A determined central midfielder with championship experience is required to add some much needed steel to the side and although the job they do for the team isn’t the most glamorous to watch, players like Neil Montgomery (Sheffield United), Michael Tongue (Stoke) or Michael Brown (Portsmouth) would fit the bill perfectly.

Over the years the fullback position has been a problematic area, how refreshing would it be to see a right back and a left back overlap at pace and deliver a pin-point cross. The combined pace of Chris Barker and Peter Ramage still wouldn’t equate to a normal level of speed.

In fairness the impressive debut of Dusko Tosic saw a full back that not only looked comfortable at defending but attacking too. Tabloid rumours also suggest we are after Nathaniel Clyne (Crystal Palace) and Justin Hoyte (Middlesborough) have been mentioned and either would be an improvement on what we already have.

Of course the list of areas needed for improvement could go on with QPR we could do with another central defender, goalkeeper and right midfielder and I’m sure Neil Warnock has highlighted all of these.

Hopefully there will not be an excessive use of the loan system next season and we can have a settled squad once the season gets under way. Next season could be a really exciting season as long as the right type of player is brought in. Bring on the summer.

Many thanks and a big welcome to JackSupple
