TOMMY Smith is excited at the prospect of a fresh start under new boss Mark Hughes.

The QPR wide-man was selected by Neil Warnock in the 25-man squad, despite limited appearances in the first half of the Premier League season.

He believes the players that missed out will now by buoyed by the opportunity to impress the new boss and get into the revised squad come the end of the month.

‘Everyone gets a fresh start now,’ Smith told QPR.co.uk.

‘It’s great news for certain players who thought they didn’t have a chance under the old Manager.

‘It’s exciting times – particularly for the players who didn’t think their future at the Club was bright.

‘Now everyone’s got a clean start.’

Some of Rangers’ fringe players featured in a friendly draw with Tottenham Hotspur and will undoubtedly be looking to catch the eye in the coming weeks.

Smith himself will be fighting to retain his place given his 13 appearances – largely from the bench – in the first half of the campaign.
