Central midfielder Liam Miller has joined QPR on loan until the end of this current season. After that, the Sunderland midfielder will be out of contract, and it is therefore possible that the loan deal will be made permanent in the summer.

Miller, who is 27 years old, is an Irish international who has played for Leeds United, Manchester United, Celtic and Sunderland along with a short spell abroad, at AGF Aarhaus in Denmark.

Miller began his career at Celtic before joining Manchester United in 2004. He moved to Sunderland in 2006 for whom he has made 60 appearances, scoring 3 goals. Internationally, he made his debut for the Republic of Ireland in 2004, against the Czech Republic. He has gone on to make 19 appearances for the national side, scoring 1 goal. It is believed that the Republic of Ireland manager, Giovanni Trapatonni, brought Miller to the attention of the Rangers` Board, leading to this loan deal.

Miller spoke to QPR.co.uk after signing: “It`s a great move for me,” he admitted. Miller has not featured regularly for Sunderland since upsetting Roy Keane by arriving at training late one morning last year!

“The Club is definitely heading in the right direction and when you look around the squad you can see the quality that is on offer,” he added.

Miller confirmed what Routledge had discovered when signing for us last week, that manager Paulo Sousa and the Club are serious about trying to make the play-offs this season: “The Manager has great ideas about where he wants to take us. The play-offs are our aim and there`s no reason why we can`t achieve our objectives.”

Commenting on the latest addition to our squad, Sousa said: “Liam will give us great options in the midfield. He is an energetic, box-to-box player who will complement the already positive options we have in the midfield department.”

The chatter on message boards over the past day or two, notably from Sunderland fans, is that Miller will be a good acquisition for us. Sunderland fan, Chops-No1_fan, said: “Liam Miller will prove to be a quality player for you, not a premiership player but still class. Alex Ferguson signed him so he can`t be that bad. Chips in with some quality goals. Check out Middlesbrough versus Sunderland last season, and the goal he scored.” Thanks for that!

Miller apparently trained with his new team mates at Harlington this morning and will be in line for a place in the starting line-up as the Rs head up north to take on Derby County on Saturday.
