Mancini Tipped as Odds Tumble

Bookies, such as SkyBet, have just reduced their odds on Italian giant Roberto Mancini to become the next QPR manager from 5/2 to 4/6 – a massive fall to quote someone who understands the way the odds system works much better than I do!!

Apparently, Mancini is currently in London. He was spotted at the Fulham v Wigan game on Wednesday evening. That, of course, does not mean that he is definitely meeting with the QPR Board to discuss personal terms – but it doesn’t rule it out, either!

Mancini, born in Jesi, Italy on 27 November 1964, has been both a player and a manager. He was a striker, playing for Bologna, Sampdoria, Lazio and Leicester City! Yes, he appeared four times for the Midlands club in 2001, just before hanging up his boots and turning to management.

As manager (or coach, as the Italians seem to prefer), he has been at Lazio (first as the assistant and then in his own right) and Fiorentina. From 2004 until 2008 he managed Serie A giants Inter Milan.

Although he has apparently indicated that he would be interested in managing in England, it would seem, from comments made by his representatives, that this would not include managing in the Championship – thus ruling QPR out!

Of course, this could be a smokescreen – or it could be true. Only time will tell whether the bookies were right in slashing his odds!!
