Michael Mancienne tomorrow makes his final appearance in a Rangers shirt before returning to Chelsea, here we look at his contribution to the Rangers cause.

Signed initially on a one-month loan spell in October 2006, then manager John Gregory was delighted with the capture:

“He is a fantastic prospect”

‘Michael will go straight into the squad on Tuesday and it’s a great chance for the QPR fans to see one of Chelsea’s – and England’s – brightest young talents in action.”

Mancienne in fact went on to make his debut for the R`s up in Hillsborough against Sheffield Wednesday in a 3-2 defeat for the R`s, with Marcus Tudgay being in impeccable form on that day.

Michael has since established himself as one of the brightest prospects in the Rangers line-up in two years with the Super Hoops. Predominantly establishing himself in the right-back role, Mancienne has also slotted in competently at centre back on occasions.

In his first season with Rangers the defender made 26 starts, keeping 5 vital clean sheets to help preserve QPR`s Championship status. His season was cut short in the final of those games after the errant boot of Preston striker Michael Ricketts connected with Mancienne`s head and in the concussion and dizziness that followed, he did not feature again that season.

After 7 months with Rangers Michael returned to Chelsea, but that wasn`t the last he saw of the R`s as John Gregory snapped him up on a season-long loan for the beginning of the 2007/08 season, it was shrouded in mystery for short period with Chelsea claiming they were just training with the R`s, but the announcement was made official in July 2007.

This season Michael has established himself as the best right back at the club, his composure on the ball and his eye for a tackle have impressed Rangers players and fans alike, with a string of impressive displays as part of the Rangers rearguard.

The Isleworth born defender has made 26 starts for the R`s this term, keeping 11 clean sheets as part of a more clinical defence under the guidance of Luigi De Canio. This meaning that of all the games Michael Mancienne has played this season, the R`s have 42% rate of clean sheets.

He has made 54 starts in all competitions for Rangers without scoring however particularly later in his spell he has gone searching for that goal with some surging runs inside from right back. A right back of real talent that will no doubt look to now break into the first team set-up at Chelsea following the completion of two successful years with the R`s.

However there is a small matter of Sunday to deal with first, and the professional that Mancienne is he will be taking no prisoners to ensure that Rangers have a say on where the title goes this season.

What have you thought of Mancienne during his loan spell? Will he make the breakthrough at Chelsea? As ever want to know YOUR opinions!
