QPR fans have been outraged at the charge of £40.00 for their tickets to the Carling Cup clash with giants Manchester United. It seemed to suggest to many that, because Rangers were now charging exorbitant prices for so-called “category A” matches, it would be alright to charge Rs fans the same high prices for away matches.

The price of £40.00 for adults was particularly galling since Rs fans were charged only £15.00 for similar tickets for the Aston Villa cup game.

It had been reported that Manchester United had offered the QPR Directors the option of taking tickets at a lower price but that the Rs` Directors turned this offer down. But now the official QPR website are reporting that that, reported in a national newspaper, was a “misleading report”.

The official website now claims that the decision to charge £40.00 for tickets was taken by the Manchester United Directors solely and that the QPR Directors were not consulted at any stage. United are apparently charging their normal matchday price for non-members for the East Stand Upper Tier, where the Rs have been given an allocation of 6,000 tickets.

The article concludess that Manchester United, along with QPR, are happy to set the record straight on this matter. Perhaps they could also explain to fans why it seems that the only way to buy tickets is through Ticketmaster who are charging an additional £7.50 booking fee?

Are Manchester United within their rights to charge such a high price for this 4th round tie? Or are they just taking advantage of QPR because of the recent hype surrounding the latest price rises at our club?
