Queens Park Rangers midfielder Gavin Mahon wants to stay and fight for his place despite reported interest from Millwall.

The 32-year-old midfielder had been the subject of interest from League One side Millwall, but has spoken out in the Ealing Gazette stating that he’s not interested in a move.

He said: ‘I spoke to the manager here and said I still feel I am fit and ready to feature and could do a job in the Championship if called on.

‘No disrespect to Millwall or any team in League One but I am hoping I can still do something here.

‘I heard from my agent that Millwall had been in touch.

‘I know a lot of people hold Kenny Jackett in high regard so it was nice to hear he was interested.’

It had been thought that Mahon would be deemed surplus to requirements with the loan signing of Ben Watson on transfer deadline day, but with Mahon underlining his ambition to stay put it gives Jim Magilton quite the selection headache going into this weekend’s clash.

Mahon signed for Rangers in January 2008 after Aidy Boothroyd released him of his contract at Watford. He had been rumoured to be going back to Vicarage Road along with this latest revelation of being linked to the Den.
