Loyalty, Ambition and Hard Work!

If you listen to our new gaffer, Paulo Sousa, talking to his squad (on QPR.co.uk) you will quickly become impressed.

He certainly talks a good talk and in good English too!! He clearly has his own mind, his own ideas and his own determination to bring the very best out of the squad he has inherited. But you also sense a ruthless streak in him which players who don`t give 100% to him and to the club will see very quickly!

In a nutshell Sousa is looking for (not necessarily in order) ambition to succeed, loyalty to the club and the staff, and hard work – lots & lots of hard work. If you are not interested then he`ll be showing you the exit door!

Sousa wants all the players to be committed to ‘the project’ (he kept on referring to ‘the project’!!) What is “the project”? To get QPR back into the Premier League as soon as possible.

He talked about how he wants the players to be just like him – the best! At everything! And not just in the training sessions – that sounds good to me! But on the field of play, too. How many times have we wondered why a particular player has made the 1st team when their performance is so dire? And we conclude it must be coz of something wonderful they’ve done in training! He expects the players to improve with each day and each training session!

Sousa also spoke to the “experienced” players and exhorted them to help the younger, less experienced players.

He talked about improvement – but not at all at once. There will be changes but they will come slowly and surely and not overnight, too. He confirmed that Gareth Ainsworth would continue taking the training sessions for the rest of this week. Sousa will support Ainsworth this week whilst he observes both the training session and the game itself against Watford.

Ainsworth himself also had a few words of thanks for the squad and urged the players to get behind Sousa 100% – not 99% mind, but the full 100%! According to Gareth – 99% just won`t work! And, trued to his word, Sousa stood on the sidelines after the meeting, whilst Gareth took this morning`s training session!
