QPR have announced that the FA have not only rejected their appeal against the red card issued by Stuart Attwell to midfielder Mikele Leigertwood on Tuesday night; they have also increased his ban from three to FOUR matches!

The ban will begin with this weekend’s fixture away to Ipswich and will also include not just the league games against Cardiff City and Burnley (at home) but the Carling Cup match away to Manchester United on Tuesday 11th November.

For Leigertwood’s sake, it may well have been better if the Club had kept quiet and let him serve his three match ban – at least then he would have been available to play against Premier League champions Manchester United.

Television images showed that Leg’s did have his foot raised high as he went to tackle Lee Carsley, even if there was no malicious intent and he played the ball (before the man!!) And, according to the QPR Official website, the FA deemed that the appeal tabled had no chance of success

In this day and age, it seems that, if your foot is raised and/or you show your studs, you are going to get a red card. It is just a terrible shame that there is such inconsistency when it comes to applying this aspect of football ‘law’.
