Scott Mathieson from Cheshire will take charge of Queens Park Rangers trip to Leeds United this weekend.
Part of the National List of referees since 1994, Mr Mathieson is one of the more experienced officials on the list, and this is reflected in the amount of QPR fixtures he has presided over.
Thus far this season Mr Mathieson has taken charge of 16 games, dishing out 40 yellow cards and a solitary red – giving him a card average of 2.56 cards per game.
He will be assisted by Mr Gary Hilton (Lancashire) and Mr Ryan Newman (South Yorkshire), the fourth official is Mr Nigel Smith (Derbyshire).
Mr Mathieson’s first QPR clash was in August 1997 when Tranmere Rovers overcame the R’s at Prenton Park. David Kelly and Lee Jones gave Rovers a two goal lead, before Gavin Peacock netted a consolation.
Later that campaign he oversaw QPR triumph over Bradford City – a solitary strike from Gavin Peacock from the spot saw Rangers home over the Bantams.
In 1998-99 Watford hosted Rangers with Mr Mathieson presiding – Keith Millen’s goal was cancelled out by R’s front-man Steve Slade, only for Allan Smart to claim victory for the Hornets five minutes from time.
His second game for QPR that season was a home fixture against Sunderland Danny Maddix and Kevin Gallen managed to overturn a Kevin Phillips opener, before Niall Quinn hit a last minute equaliser for the ten-men Black Cats.
In January 2000 Rangers suffered defeat away to Wolverhampton Wanderers with Steve Sedgley, Michael Branch and Ade Akinbiyi saw Wolves race into a three goal lead before Gavin Peacock and Steve Slade reduced the arrears with minutes remaining.
Thereafter followed a draw with the other half of the Black Country, as QPR were held at home 0-0 by West Bromwich Albion, once again under the watchful eye of Mr Mathieson.
He then oversaw one of the more disappointing points in recent QPR history two years later. Rangers were held by Vauxhall Motors at the Deva Stadium, Chester. This set up the non-league side for a penalty triumph at Loftus Road.
A season later and matters had changed in W12 for the better, nevertheless the promotion chasing Rangers were overcome by Bournemouth. Warren Feeney capitalised on the mistake by Dan Shittu to hand the Cherries the win by the odd goal.
Mr Mathieson then didn’t referee Rangers again until April 2009, when another goalless draw ensued. The official oversaw Rangers held at home by Crystal Palace as Paulo Sousa and Neil Warnock’s sides cancelled each other out.
