Sheffield Wednesday boss Brian Laws believes that his side deserved a point or more after their display against QPR.

The Owls boss was left disappointed after his side fell behind to a Jay Simpson strike, but Jermaine Johnson pegged Rangers back just moments later.

Kaspars Gork?s netted the winner for QPR, stooping low at a corner to nod past Lee Grant from Alejandro Faurlín’s set-piece.

Laws believed that Rangers staged a smash and grab at Hillsborough and was disappointed for his players, speaking to swfc.co.uk.

‘Football can be cruel at times and I think we experienced that this afternoon,’ he said.

‘In the first ten minutes we were sloppy and I thought we gave them too much respect and they got one goal and could have got another.

‘That was the warning sign but after that we got back into the game, scored a great goal and after that, we were in control. ‘

Laws was scathing of the referee, who seemed to frustrate Owls fans and management alike despite what was a fairly even-handed display.

While Laws labelled the official as inconsistent, there were numerous occasions where both sides were denied fouls and despite their vastly superior foul count Mr Miller didn’t book an Owls player.

Nevertheless it didn’t stop Laws from his verbal assault on the referee, while admitting it was a defensive error and not a decision that ultimately decided the fixture.

He said: ‘In the second half, we pinned them in, they didn’t cause us too many problems at the back and I was delighted with the performance against a very good side, no question about it.

‘So to lose the game in the manner that we did, from a corner that was not even a corner, probably typifies the referee.

‘He was so inconsistent, we were all scratching our heads with disbelief at some of his decisions.’

Laws finalised by stating his disappointment for players and fans that they didn’t get something from the game, labelling the R’s as pocket-pinchers on the day.

Laws continued: ‘I am disappointed for the players because they have put in a good shift and done enough to win the game.

‘This is the second home game we have had our pockets pinched.’

Wednesday now have to wait to rectify the situation as they head into the international break. Following the break they have a late kick off against strugglers Ipswich Town at Portman Road.
