The season has barely drawn to its conclusion and yet the Queen has officially declared silly season open for business. Here is who the R`s have been linked with so far, with potential developments in the offing.

With thoughts of Zinedine Zidane still ambling through the minds of even the most optimistic of fan, we were dragged back down to earth with a bump when a new club crest marked The Dawn of a New Era.

With no Zizou to call our own, the regular transfer rumours started to fluctuate, Manchester United winger Lee Martin who has had loan spells at now Premier League outfit Stoke City, Plymouth Argyle under Ian Holloway, and joined Sheffield United in the January transfer window. He accumulated 19 starts in those respective loan spells, scoring three goals. He has also made two league cup starts for Manchester United.

Vastly experienced forward Andrew Cole who put the R`s to the sword with a scintillating display for Burnley at Loftus Road, was also linked with the R`s this week. The Nottingham born striker has had 7 homes in a career spanning just under 20 years, accumulating a total transfer kitty of £16.75m. The forward who is winding down his career with Sunderland has scored 229 league goals from 428 starts. His hatrick against the R`s was greatly respected by the Loftus Road crowd who stood as one to applaud his contribution.

From one end of the spectrum to the other, and Italian right winger Matteo Alberti was spotted at the Player of the Year dinner, and is one of the latest players that Rangers are believed to have signed. Found by the R`s foreign transfer guru Gianni Di Marzio, Alberti has had limited first team chances had been rumoured to sign with the R`s in the Italian media in a deal which could pave the way for a friendly with his club Chievo Verona.

Newcastle recently announce they will release defensive duo Peter Ramage and Stephen Carr at the end of the season. Both previously linked with the R`s, firstly Ramage had made 45 starts for the Magpies. The Ashington born defender`s game time at Newcastle this season has been cut short due to injury, with King Kev not wanting to lose the defender, but with the defender himself choosing to leave for first team games.

Secondly Republic of Ireland international Carr has had 76 starts since making a £2m move from Spurs in 2004. The experienced full back has also been capped 41 times by his country, and was not wanted by Kevin Keegan in his bid to make the Toon a top half team.

Robert Earnshaw is a name that is frequently mentioned with the R`s, and the Welsh international forward has not ruled out a move from Derby County where he has only managed 7 starts in a torrid Premier League season. The striker who has commanded accumulated fees of £10m, has been prolific in this division for first Cardiff, then West Brom and Norwich City, bagging 127 league goals spanning from Premier League to League Two.

Tottenham stopper Radek Cerny has openly publicised to the Czech media that he will indeed sign for QPR in the summer after his contract with Spurs will not be renewed. The Czech international goalkeeper with 3 caps to his name has been wrestling with England number 1 Paul Robinson for the goalkeepers jersey and getting 12 starts in the latter stages of the season, with some stunning saves keeping out his more illustrious counterpart.

Finally Rangers are again being linked with Watford full back Jordan Stewart, the Birmingham born defender has been in and around the first team the entire season and contributed a couple of goals, a notable screamer against Wolves on the first day. With the news that Stewart is being relieved of his contract come the end of the season, Rangers are once again rumoured to be looking at the experienced left back.
