Speculation has once again been rife, as Iain Dowie looks set to dip into the transfer market for the first time as R`s boss. Here are some of the latest rumours.

It`s that time again, as messageboards flurry with activity, and newspaper inches are taken up with speculative transfer stories, as Rangers so much as breathe, they are linked with players. Here are the latest rumours.

Anthony Gardner

The Stafford born defender, capped once by England, signed for Tottenham Hotspur in January 2000 from Port Vale in a move worth £1m.

In 8 years at White Hart Lane, the 26-year-old defender has made 114 league appearances scoring 2 goals. The latter being in August last season, as Spurs went down to the side he was sent out on loan to, Everton.

Gardner has not had regular first team football since joining Spurs, and his loan move to Everton at the back end of last season, will no doubt have given the defender a taste for a new challenge.

Dan Shittu

The first rumour is alleged to be as a result of a breakdown in this one. Shittu left the then cash strapped Queens Park Rangers for his current club Watford for a fee rising to £3m, he has since been linked with a sensational move back to Loftus Road.

The man mountain signed for QPR from Charlton Athletic for £350k, subsequently making 162 league appearances scoring 16 goals. After Rangers accepted bids from West Bromwich Albion and Watford, the defender opted for Premier League football.

With Shittu rumoured to be unsettled at Vicarage Road, it seems the R`s have attempted to swoop in and take the defender. However with Watford having slapped a weighty price tag on the Nigerian international, this may force Dowie to pursue other avenues.

Ben Watson

The Crystal Palace exodus is in full flow as Neil Warnock does his player turnover ratio`s no harm. Evidently the R`s have had several links with Crystal Palace players due to our managers successful past with the Eagles.

The midfielder who has spent his career thus far with the Eagles, had been linked with a £1.25m bid to QPR. However reports suggest that this bid was consequently rejected, as Watson enters the last year of his contract.

With Reading and Norwich City also keeping tabs on the 22 year old midfielder, it seems competition will hot up as the opening day of the season draws ever closer.

Kaspars Gorkss

The Latvian defender signed from Ventspils has impressed in his first season in the Championship, as Blackpool managed to stave off relegation.

The 26 year old defender made a total of 50 appearances last season, scoring 6 goals for the Tangerines, and his performances have provoked a reported interest from Queens Park Rangers, the aforementioned Watford, as well as local rivals Preston North End

The defender who is a mainstay in the Latvian national side, has been a bit of a find for manager Simon Grayson, but with Blackpool having a board bereft of ambition, it seems Gorkss could be cashed in on sooner rather than later.

Sammy Clingan

Yet another central midfielder to be linked with the R`s, Clingan was recently promoted back to the Championship with Nottingham Forest on a dramatic final day in League One.

Clingan failed to make the grade last time he was in the Championship with Wolverhampton Wanderers, and was subsequently loaned out to Chesterfield. He found a home with Forest, and has since made himself an integral player at the City Ground, making 85 appearances scoring 1 goal.

An experienced international with Northern Ireland, Clingan has aroused interest from other clubs such as Norwich City and Ipswich Town, as Rangers, if interested, would face stiff competition for the Belfast born midfielder.

Marlon Harewood

Aston Villa striker Marlon Harewood, has been sensationally linked to the R`s by The Sunday Mirror after only 1 start in the claret and blue of Aston Villa.

Making 22 substitute appearances, Harewood scored 5 goals after his hefty £4m move from West Ham United, where he made 142 league appearances, scoring 47 goals in a successful spell at Upton Park.

With Harewood`s first team chances limited at Villa Park, QPR may offer the striker a way out, either by way of transfer, or a method that Iain Dowie has stated his preference for, a loan deal.

Bobby Zamora

In the same report as Marlon Harewood, his former strike partner Bobby Zamora could also be in line for a move. Zamora who has made 130 appearances scoring 30 goals for the Hammers, has had limited chances this season due to injury.

Starting at Bristol Rovers, Zamora then moved to Brighton and Hove Albion, where a successful spell ensured Tottenham came calling. After a disappointing period with Spurs, he found a home at West Ham, scoring in the playoff final to send the Hammers back to the Premier League.

A goalscorer by trade, Zamora needs to be playing regular first team football, it remains to be seen whether he can break back into the West Ham set-up, with the Hammers looking to spend in the summer.

Adam Johnson

Johnson, 20, had been linked with a move to Queens Park Rangers as well as UEFA Cup finalists Glasgow Rangers.

The Middlesbrough winger has made 44 appearances for ‘Boro in his career thus far, with only 14 starts. In his short career he has had two brief loan spells at Leeds United and Watford, the latter for which he scored at Loftus Road in a 1-1 draw.

A creative left winger by trade, manager Gareth Southgate seems reluctant to let him go stating that there has been no bid from any party.
