Vital QPR runs the rule over the recent press coverage to see who has been linked with the vacant post at Loftus Road.

Luiz Felipe Scolari

Reports in the Daily Mail surfaced on Thursday April 16 that Rangers were interested in the signature of the former Chelsea and World Cup winning manager Luiz Felipe Scolari.

While it would be considered by many to be a step down to come across West London and manage in the Championship, Scolari and his wife are apparently keen to stay in the area.

He himself admitted: “My agent has received a number of offers, some of them from clubs at a very high level and some longer-term projects

‘I will study everything very calmly and make my decision at the end of May or the beginning of June.

‘But I have decided to keep on working in Europe – I’ve already forgotten about what happened with Chelsea, even though it was a hugely important experience in my life.’

Scolari has managed an astounding 16 teams including three national teams – Brazil, Portugal and Kuwait. He has expressed his desire to rejoin Grêmio at the end of his career a club he has managed on two occasions.

Neil Warnock

A fresh candidate emerged in the form of Crystal Palace boss Neil Warnock, as reported by the South London Press.

This rumour was prompted by the actions of bookmaker Victor Chandler to slash the odds of the former Sheffield United man to third favourite to succeed Paulo Sousa.

A manager with a great calibre for getting teams promoted and working with difficult owners Neil Warnock may not be such a surprising choice as one may think – more a logical option.

However the R`s have been down this route before with Iain Dowie, and it would remain to be seen whether Warnock would really represent a realistic candidate.

Dennis Wise

This rumour has been covered several times in several different news outlets. He has been linked with the post at W12 every time it has come up since Ian Holloway`s departure and neither the club or Wise has seen it fit to bring the rumour to fruition.

The Daily Star are the particular paper that suggest Dennis` appointment is imminent, but there hasn`t been stirring towards his name for some time now.

Everywhere you turn in football Dennis is much-maligned and despite his father being a QPR fan, he may not be a popular choice at Loftus Road.

Dennis was said to have fallen out of love with management following Gus Poyet`s departure from Leeds United to Tottenham Hotspur – this prompted the former Chelsea man to take an executive role at Newcastle United.

He is now out of work since Alan Shearer took the helm at St James` Park, taking the job seemingly on the proviso that he worked without a director of football. Quite why Wise was deemed more competent than Kevin Keegan to pick players I suppose only Mike Ashley will know.

Luigi De Canio

A statement was released only the other day with regards to his departure, but once again Luigi De Canio has been linked with what would be a sensational return to W12 – a place where the former Siena and Udinese boss is much loved.

The London Informer ran the story suggesting that he would work alongside current caretaker boss Gareth Ainsworth following the completion of his spell with Lecce, a side who he was charged to keep up in almost impossible circumstances in Serie A.

A much travelled manager, De Canio was charged with the task of keeping Rangers in the Championship and duly obliged with the bonus of truly excellent football. According to Flavio Briatore he was desperate to keep Gigi and offered him new terms to stay at the club.

Deal Dead

Darren Ferguson

The son of the Manchester United boss was rumoured a while ago to be top of the Rangers wish-list, however a manager with limited experience at this level he seems to have priced himself out of the running.

Rumours about a £40,000 a week salary had Rangers chiefs disappointed according to the London Informer as the R`s have ceased their interest in the former Wolverhampton Wanderers forward.
