Last Minute Goal Facts

Robbie_qpr couldn’t help himself by sound off with this seasons Queens Park Rangers overall teams performance and the dreaded last minute goal(s).

Frustration

After the dramatic final few last Saturday (R’s v Preston), and once the emotions of joy and relief had subsided, I was left with an over whelming feeling of ‘about bloody time’.

I don’t know about everyone else, but I thought that, this season more than most, we seem to have conceded more than out fair share of last minute goals.

I was left wondering just how many late goals we had been on the wrong side of and just how many points they had lost us over the course of the season.

Stats

Therefore, I went through the results and noted all goals in our games, for and against, scored in or after the 85th minute… and here is what I found:

1 – There have been 13 goals scored in the last five minutes, five in our favour and eight against.

2 – Of our five, two have changed the overall result of the game, giving us an extra two points.

3 – Of the eight we conceded, five have changed the result, losing us seven points

4- If a game of football lasted 84 minutes, we would be five points better off this season.

If only

So, instead of 54 points, we would have 59, be in 11th place, and three points off a play off spot.

Not quite as bad as I had expected but still something we need to turn around in our advantage next season if we intend on mounting a serious promotion push.

Its statistics like this that will be the difference between success or failure.
