Queens Park Rangers boss Jim Magilton praised the effort of his players despite being held at home by the determined Blackpool.

A fortuitous Peter Ramage strike saved the day after Ben Burgess had given the Tangerines the lead in the first half.

It was Magilton`s first game in charge of QPR, and he was impressed with what he saw from his players despite the early set-back.

He told QPR.co.uk that the effort and application of his squad was excellent in testing conditions as the sun beat down on Loftus Road.

‘We had so many chances,’ Jim said.

‘I think when Rowan Vine saw his chance go past the post, you think ‘it’s not going to be our day’ but our attitude and application was first class.

‘We kept going and going and if we continue to play like that then we’ll win more than we’ll lose. We just have to take our opportunities when they come along, but I can’t praise them enough.

‘It was sticky conditions. I would have liked us to have passed the ball a bit better at times but I can’t fault our effort.’

Jim was also complementary of the defence despite his disappointment concerning the goal, indicating that they impressed him following the goal.

The injury to Martin Rowlands had fans worried, and looking back to Pride Park last year when he tore his anterior cruciate ligaments. Jim had no news on the injury other than to give initial thoughts that he`s turned his ankle and will go for scans.

The R`s now travel to Exeter City in a Carling Cup tie as they continue to reproduce a good run from last year that took them past Aston Villa and on to Old Trafford against Manchester United.
