Queens Park Rangers boss Jim Magilton has dedicated today’s thumping home victory to injured skipper Martin Rowlands.
The Rangers captain will remain sidelines for the season with an anterior cruciate ligament injury picked up while on international duty, but the R’s did him proud today.
Goals from Adel Taarabt, Akos Buzsaky, Jay Simpson and Wayne Routledge secured a 4-0 home win over playoff hopefuls Preston North End.
Gareth Ainsworth made a brief cameo at the end of the game and sported a vest in dedication to the injured R’s skipper.
Jim Magilton told of his delight after the final whistle to QPR.co.uk, branding the display as one of his best in management.
‘That’s our best performance so far without any doubt – probably the best I’ve seen from one of my sides in my time in management,’ he said.
‘We took our opportunities today; from the first whistle I thought we were excellent.
‘The victory is as much for Martin Rowlands as it is for everyone else connected to the Club.
‘We said we wanted to put on a performance he could be proud of and we did just that.
‘We’d like to dedicate that win to him.’
Magilton was quick to praise Adel Taarabt labelling the returning Moroccan as a ‘genius’ in his ability to beat his men and deliver that killer touch in front of goal – a finish that Magilton described as ‘out of this world.’
Though elated with the performance and result Magilton was keen to point out that a similar calibre of display would be required to get the better of Brendan Rodgers’ Reading.
Jim continued: ‘We applied ourselves really well – we looked like we could score at will.
‘To win in the manner we did, against a very good side, is just outstanding – simply outstanding.
‘We’ve got to follow this up on Tuesday with another performance and victory and if we do that I’ll be delighted.’
The R’s as mentioned host Reading on Tuesday night in a bid to bag their first home goal against the Royals for a number of years.
A display that epitomised Martin Rowlands and it will surely have cushioned the blow of his injury somewhat.
