Jim Magilton has dedicated today’s performance and result to Queens Park Rangers co-owner Flavio Briatore.

Off the field issues have dogged Flavio Briatore in recent times but the R’s gaffer was quick to point out that this outstanding performance and result today was for the Italian.

Queens Park Rangers raced into a two goal lead before half time with the outstanding finishing of Jay Simpson earning him his first strikes for the club.

A stout defensive unit was complimented with a multitude of flair and creativity in attack with QPR dominating proceedings in the second period.

Magilton spoke QPR.co.uk following the final whistle and praised the performance of his players for the first time this season.

‘We executed the plan to perfection,” he said.

‘To a man, we were outstanding and I’m delighted for the lads.

‘It’s never easy in the Championship, but we got out of the blocks really quickly and stamped our authority on the game.”

The strike partnership of Jay Simpson and Rowan Vine was a particular delight for the QPR boss, with the pair working well together, with Vine himself unlucky not to get on the scoresheet.

Into the second half he worked himself and excellent shooting position but saw his curling effort rebound off the post and away to safety.

‘We were clinical today. Jay took his two goals well,” Jim continued.

‘We’ve had a steady start without really finishing teams off. Today we managed to score at the right times, and some of our football was fantastic.

‘Jay’s come in and been great. His work ethic has been outstanding.

‘He was unlucky not to score against Scunthorpe and Peterborough. He just needed a goal to get him going and today thankfully he got his just rewards.

‘I thought Rowan Vine was very good too. It’s nice to have him back in the side. He was unlucky not to score what would have been a great goal for him, when the ball came back off the post.’

Queens Park Rangers now travel to West-London rivals Chelsea in a mouth-watering Carling Cup tie at Stamford Bridge.

The R’s have sold their full quota of tickets for the game and the 6,000 travelling army is expected to make lots of noise as QPR pit themselves against one of the Premier League’s elite clubs.
