“It’s really competitive”: QPR man gives insight into schedule as break continues

|

Queens Park Rangers midfielder Luke Amos has confirmed that he is on a daily fitness programme with the club as he looks to ensure he is ready ahead of the season resuming.

Whilst there are no definitive dates for a return, EFL chairman Rick Parry has previously stated that May 16 is a date that Football League clubs can aim to start training again, with the campaign restarting in June. Whether that happens remains to be seen, although players have been keeping fit in the meantime.

And, speaking to The Athletic, Amos explained what he has been doing to stay in shape as he revealed the group are regularly trying to out-do each other when it comes to their running times, which are posted into a group chat every day.

I’m on a daily programme with QPR. There’s lots of running, and I don’t think I’ve ever done so many push-ups in my life.

All of our gym scores and running stats go into the group chat. The running in particular you can’t cheat, so that’s why it’s really competitive. I find myself sprinting up the A10 trying to improve my time! I’m not number one unfortunately but when I see people getting 17, 18 minutes for 5km, I’m like, ‘Wow’…”

Would you sign Luke Amos permanently if possible?

Yes

No

The 23-year-old joined the R’s on a season-long loan from Tottenham in the summer and has played 25 times for Mark Warburton’s side as they look to challenge for a return to the Premier League. The Londoners are currently in the bottom half of the table, although they are only six points away from the play-off places, with nine games to play.

Amos’ deal at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium ends this summer, although his long-term future is up in the air as he will have just one year left on his contract with Spurs when he returns to north London in the summer.
