Paul Hart has made his first signing this afternoon bringing Wolves 23-year old goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme, to Loftus Road until Sunday 31st January 2010.

Ikeme, who will be ineligible to play for Rangers in our FA Cup replay next Tuesday evening, has spent time on loan with both Charlton Athletic and Sheffield United already this season.

Hart has said, of this latest goalie to join us on loan: “He`s a young goalkeeper who I know they (loves) think a lot of and he`s joining us to gain experience.

“He is certainly someone who I consider to be a great addition to the squad,”Hart continued. “He is coming here to challenge for the number one jersey, not just to warm the bench as a back up,” Hart announced.

Carl Ikeme has come through the Wolves` ranks. He first played in the First XI in the 2003/04 season, when an injury to first-choice keeper, Matt Murray, opened the door to Ikeme. This was followed by a loan spell at Accrington Stanley and another at Stockport County, although this latter was short-lived as he suffered an injury to his hand.

Injuries hampered his chances of regular outings for the First Team in 2006/07, but from September 2008 he made ten first team appearances in the season Wolves secured promotion to the Premiership.

Personally, I am intrigued that we have done a deal for yet another loan period – and this being very short, too, until the end of this month. One has to wonder if it means we are looking to buy someone who is currently out on loan until January 23rd? I’m talking, of course, about Tom Heaton – but this is merely speculation on my part for a most odd piece of transfer news, in my opinion!
