“I Won’t Argue With Him” – 26 y/o Discusses Different QPR Role Under Warburton

|

Queens Park Rangers’ preparations for the coming 2019/20 Championship campaign are now well underway and manager Mark Warburton saw his new side in proper action for the first time on Friday evening as we opened up the pre-season campaign with a friendly against Austria Vienna.

Building on the fitness work done so far, our training camp abroad allows everyone to focus in properly on what the new gaffer wants from them and although the match was a 3-1 defeat, there was a formation tweak to 4231 and Josh Scowen took up a far more advanced role – and he got himself on the scoresheet.

Speaking to the Official Site following the game, Scowen discussed the role Warburton had asked him to fulfil and he seemed to enjoy himself.

“It is more advanced than what I am used to but I enjoyed it and if the gaffer wants to play me there then I won’t argue with him! He wanted me there to rat around and try to win the ball high up. I think I did well there, and to get a goal is always nice.”

Naturally, with the game being the first, Scowen admitted that after the hour mark fatigue certainly started to kick in for the squad but that’s always the case as we build ourselves back up, but there are reasons to be positive as the playing style and tactical side of things will become more normal the longer they play that way.

“It has been a long week but it’s been good. We have learnt a lot and over the course of the time we have been out here we have certainly got a lot sharper. It has also given everyone a chance to get to know each other and for the new lads to settle in, which is great. It’s something that we needed as a group to help us all gel together.”
