Horwood started refereeing at 15 years of age and reached the national list of assistant referees in 2001 after several successful seasons in the South Midlands and Isthmian Leagues.

The official from Bedfordshire was promoted to the National List of referees in 2007 and his self-professed career highlight was the 2007 Conference play-off semi-final between Exeter City and Oxford United.

‘The game went off without controversy, the atmosphere was superb. It was a day I will remember for a long time,’ he said.

He is yet to take charge of a QPR game in his three year stint as a member of the National List of referees but he has refereed the R`s opponents tomorrow night, Swansea City.

Mr Horwood oversaw the Swans snatch a last gasp point at home to Barnsley as a Jason Scotland brace guided them to a late draw. He had handed Barnsley a penalty which Jamal Campbell-Ryce had duly dispatched.

So far this campaign Mr Horwood has taken charge of 31 games, handing out 77 yellow cards and four reds giving him a card average of 2.61 cards per game.
