The 25-man squad is not just about giving in 25 names of players you wish to draw from to build a team of 11 players on a Saturday (or Sunday, Monday, etc etc!)
At least eight players in that 25-man squad must be ‘home grown’ (as defined by the Premier League.)
‘Home grown’ means a player who, irrespective of his nationality or age, has been registered with any club affiliated to the FA (or the Welsh FA) for a period of three whole seasons, or 36 months, before his 21st birthday (or the end of the season during which he turns 21), although this does not have to be continuous.
It may surprise you just how many of our 25-man squad actually are ‘home grown’
Here are QPR’s ‘home grown’ players:
Bradley Orr
Clint Hill
Shaun Derry
Fitz Hall
Danny Gabbidon
Adel Taarabt (yes, he came to Spurs on loan but young enough to qualify!)
Kieron Dyer
DJ Campbell
Jay Bothroyd
Kamie Mackie
Armand Traore (guess we should thank Arsene for bringing him to Arsenal at such a tender young age)
Matt Connolly
Joey Barton
Luke Young
Tommy Smith
Shaun Wright-Phillips
Anton Ferdinand
Jason Puncheon
That leaves our ‘foreigners’:
Paddy Kenny
Alejandro Faurlin
Akos Buzsaky
Bruno Perone
Heidar Helguson
Radek Cerny
Brian Murphy
