Queens Park Rangers manager Ian Holloway has spoken of ‘bursting with pride’ following the victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers this weekend.

Hosting high flying Wolves at Loftus Road for the game, goals from Conor Washington and Matt Smith gave us a two one victory on the day and despite having a raft of chances, Wolves were level within two minutes of us taking the lead and we only secured victory with less than ten minutes remaining in the tie.

Speaking to the Official Site as he met with the media post game, a clearly chuffed gaffer explained.

‘I`m delighted with the lads. We had a game plan and we executed it superbly. I`m a great admirer of how Wolves play but I thought we coped with them and nullified the threat that they bring.
“We deserved to go a goal up when we did. It was a really smart goal from Conor. Mass did brilliantly and Conor gambled on it and got his rewards. To get a goal up and then concede so soon after was a blow – it got them angry! But I thought we were superb in the second half.’

Holloway went on to say.

‘They`re a very, very good team. You could see that with some of their movement. I always thought it was a game we could win though. We were a huge threat and when you`ve got the options I`ve got from the bench, you know you`re in the game. Big Smithy was a handful, as he always is. It was a great cross from Lynchy and Smithy does what he does best and the keeper`s got absolutely no chance with the header.’

Praising everyone for their performances, he added.

‘How can you fault the commitment of these lads? You can`t and what I would say is I feel the supporters can see that too, in the way these lads are giving everything for this special QPR shirt. Today, unlike previous weeks, we got what we deserved and I`m absolutely bursting with pride.’

With Washington getting the scoring underway, he was also in front of the press post game.

‘I felt like I have been sharp in training in the last few weeks and I`ve been trying to show the gaffer that I`m worthy of a place in his side. Luckily I got that opportunity yesterday. It`s quite easy to feel sorry for yourself when you`re not in the team and I`ve been guilty of that in the past. But it`s important to show a positive reaction, get the distances up in training and look as sharp as you can. It`s obviously nice to score but the three points were more important than that. We really needed that and we thoroughly deserved it.’

As for his goal more specifically, he went on to say.

‘What do I remember about the goal? Falling over afterwards! Me and Mass (Luongo) are always bickering about him passing to me and not passing to me, and he thundered into a great tackle on the edge of the box, and the ball shot at me. I got across the defender and from there I managed to put it in the back of the net.’

He also admitted some frustration in the dressing room at half time given how quickly Wolves were level.

‘At half-time we were disappointed to be level but we had confidence we could come again and get the goal. We had a couple of chances – I had one which was cleared off the line after I lobbed the keeper, Freesy had a shot which hit the bar, Matt Smith had the header before his goal so we definitely had chances. They did as well but I felt we deserved the win. It`s been a bit of a topsy-turvy season for us but we always seem to do well against the teams towards the top of the division and I think the way we`re playing, the style of play, it seems to suit us more against teams who have the ball a little bit more than us.’
