Healthy Competition Delights Jim

Jim Magilton has spoken in the build up to the Doncaster clash on Saturday indicating that the squad are working hard to impress.

During the international break Rangers were without Adel Taarabt and Ákos Buzsáky who suffered defeats in their respective fixtures.

Magilton revealed to QPR.co.uk that during the break there has been a competitive edge to training, spurred on by the belief that everyone has an opportunity.

‘Competition is healthy,’ he said.

‘We’ve spoken from day one about competition in training and having a real competitive edge and that’s continued and that’s probably why so many people want to play.

‘Everybody believes they have an opportunity to play and that has bore fruit with regards to our displays and our recent performances.’

Looking ahead to this weekend’s fixture with Doncaster Rovers, Rangers are still looking for their first win at the Keepmoat Stadium.

An own goal from Damion Stewart and a Paul Heffernan strike secured the Rovers win on the last occasion with mustering little in terms of a riposte.

On that occasion Rangers brought 616 supporters, but on Saturday they will be cheered on by over 1,200 supporters in Yorkshire.

Magilton believes that this is testament to his team’s performances, and this calibre of support can spur the side on to their ultimate goals.

‘Since I’ve come into the club it’s been fantastic,’ Jim said with reference to the support.

‘There’s more and more fans travelling and I think it’s great. It’s such an added bonus to the players. They’ve celebrated some great victories away from home this year.

‘I’m sure that the gospel spreads and it’s down to us as a group to continue with our fine displays away from home and if we do that maybe we can get a few more.’

Rangers will be looking for their third victory on the spin away from home, with wins over Derby County (4-2) and Sheffield Wednesday (2-1).

Two of their three defeats have come on the road against Swansea City and Bristol City, but the R’s have impressed by and large in their performances away from Loftus Road.
