Martin Haywood will take charge of this weekend’s clash between Derby County and Queens Park Rangers.

Haywood from West Yorkshire joined the national list of assistant referees in 2002 before being promoted four years later to the national list of referees.

In 2006 he refereed his first game which was a 1-1 draw between Notts County and Swindon Town in League Two – booking former R`s winger Aaron Brown during that fixture.

Refereeing mainly League Two fixtures with a smattering from the level above, Mr Haywood took charge of 21 games in total, booking 64 and sending off three in his first full season in charge.

Mr Haywood also got a taste for Championship football the following season, refereeing six fixtures in the second tier.

Last season was a different story with the official taking charge of 11 Championship games, the last of which was QPR’s trip to Burnley.

The high-riding Clarets were looking good bets for a playoff place as Gareth Ainsworth had the temporary helm of QPR for the second time in the season.

Former R’s defender Clarke Carlisle scored the winner which appeared to deflect off a Burnley hand on the way in and despite some furious protestations the goal was given.

So far this season Mr Haywood has refereed 11 games dishing out 20 yellows and one red card during the campaign.

He will be assisted by Simon Bennett (Staffordshire) and William Smallwood (Cheshire). The fourth official is Craig Pawson (South Yorkshire) who took charge of the R’s against Accrington Stanley.
